The website was so easy to use. I checked frequently to the status of my order and you were right on time. When I received my package…I was elated! Everything was returned to me plus my 2 DVD’s. ScanDigital did the reels in the order I had requested.” Sandy – DE

“I did have a positive experience with you guys.  Great job of keeping me updated on where my pics where in the scanning process and great job of handling with care, returning them promptly, and storing them on disc and online.” Dan – CA

“Besides providing a high quality product, the thing I like the most about your company is the ongoing communication from the time the material is sent until it is received back to me. This is very reassuring when you are sending precious memories through the mail. I also think that your mailing process is very simple and easy to use. Overall I would recommend your company.” Elizabeth – VA

“I am very happy with the way my orders were serviced. “This was the third time I used a ScanDigital. I like the way you make it easy to use. Over the course of having the work done I had questions and had to call customer service. I was able to speak to helpful people and get the information I needed. I also appreciate the emails acknowledging receipt, completion, and shipping of the order.” Steve – IL

“I was very pleased with your work your company did in dealing with the various photos I sent you. Your staff cleaned up the picture and dealt with the very dark and very light photos. I was surprised at how all the various sizes looked uniform on the final DVD.” Virginia – NY

“Being able to track the progress of my order is a very good feature. Your pricing options were straight forward. I would definitely refer you to a friend and will probably use your services again in the future.” Joe – IL

“First let me say that any contact I’ve had with people from Scan Digital has been great.  Anyone I have ever spoken to on the phone has been very helpful, patient, and congenial. I recently sent about seventeen 30 year old super 8 films to be put on DVD.  You made it easy to send by having a UPS label ready for me. I could just box my films, put on the label and send. The DVD was completed in the amount of time you said it would be done.  I was very excited to see it.” Barbara – CT

“I was pleased with the ease of ordering with Scan Digital. The web site was clear.  Being able to print labels was cool.” Heather – VA

What To See In Between Blockbusters

Indie Films To See This Summer

The summer blockbuster season is upon us. Moviegoers know that the summer is notorious for huge productions full of explosions and computer-generated action, which can be both good and bad. I enjoy large-scale action as much as the next guy, but sometimes I get burned out on blockbusters. Don’t get me wrong – I’ll happily get in line to see Harry Potter, Captain America, and the X-Men blow stuff up this summer – but every once in a while I enjoy something a little more thought-provoking, and a little less 3D. If you find that you’ve had enough of the dizzying computer graphics and the headache-inducing 3D digital video transfers, here are some interesting indie movies that are sure to provide more down-to-Earth entertainment this summer.

Rookie director Dan Rush’s “Everything Must Go” just hit theaters on May 13th, but it’s been creating a buzz among fans and critics alike since scoring big at the London Film Festival. Will Ferrell plays an uncharacteristically layered character – an alcoholic named Nick Halsey whose wife has thrown him out of the house. Much of the film takes place on Nick’s front lawn, where the down-and-out protagonist holds a yard sale in an attempt to get a fresh start on life. Although the film has its comedic moments, it is definitely a drama, and Ferrell shows that his acting ability is not limited to the goofy characters we’ve seen from him in the past. His performance shows a depth of understanding that would be impressive from any actor.

This July 15th, millions of fans will line up for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II.” But what will they see the next week? If you’re a grown-up fan looking for post-Potter entertainment , consider “Sarah’s Key,” which opens July 22nd. Writer-director Gilles Paquet-Brenner tells the compelling story is an American journalist (played by the incomparable Kristin Scott Thomas) who uncovers the horrible truth about the fates of the thousands of Jews in Paris who were rounded up and deported by their fellow Parisians in the midst of Nazi tyranny in 1942. It has earned strong reviews in Europe, where it has already opened, and at the Toronto International Film Festival. Unlike many other classic Holocaust films like “Schindler’s List,” “Sarah’s Key” takes place mostly in the present, and explores the effects of these events on a different generation.

Other indie films coming out this summer include the science-fiction romantic tragedy “Another Earth,” and the period drama “Amigo,” set during the U.S. occupation of the Philippines in 1900. These movies might not knock your socks off with CGI digital video transfers and mind-blowing special effects, but smaller budgets and complex content can provide a cinematic experience that is every bit as powerful as a blockbuster.

New iMac Not Just A Pretty Face

The New iMac Is The Fastest Kid On The Block

Apple’s All-In-One Offers Good Looks, High Speed, And 27 Inches Of Glory

You don’t have to be a computer person to know that Apple’s iMac all-in-one computers are some of the best-looking computers out there. Even if you generally prefer PCs to Macs, there is no denying that Apple’s design takes the cake for display real-estate and quality, and the slickness of the overall presentation. Last week, Apple introduced a new iMac that beefs up things internally, making it faster and more capable than ever before. This new iMac, featuring a gigantic 27” display, is now not only the best-looking all-in-one computer out there, it’s also the fastest.

There are a few big changes in the new iMac, chief among which is the inclusion of the new second-generation Core i5 or i7 processors. These new CPUs offer higher speed and efficiency, and significantly improved graphics performance over previous chips. This makes the new iMac a great choice for media professionals and enthusiasts who want to edit photos and digital video transfers, and perform other graphics-intensive operations. The average consumer might find the highest-end iMac to be overkill in both price and features, but people like gaming enthusiasts and serious media editors will rejoice at the computer’s high-end AMD Radeon HD 6000-series graphics card and exceptional peripheral device flexibility.

Speaking of peripherals, the second big addition to the new iMacs is the new Thunderbolt interface, which supports high-bandwidth bi-directional flow of data and display information. Whether you want to hook up a high-speed external hard drive or an additional monitor, the Thunderbolt interface offers unprecedented speed of information flow. Thanks to the flexibility of this interface, users can hook up two additional monitors for a simultaneous three-display workstation. That means you can have a video call on one screen, documents or emails on another, and still edit a full-screen digital video transfer at the same time. This kind of multi-display support is not unique to the iMac, but the current version is the first Apple all-in-one to offer this level of display flexibility.

If you are interested in taking advantage of that beautiful 27” display to watch HD movies on Blu-ray, you’re out of luck; Apple still hasn’t incorporated Blu-ray into any of its computers. This is the one major drawback of the iMac. Increasingly computers are becoming multimedia hubs, and some users (especially those who plan on using the iMac in dorm rooms or bedrooms) might miss the ability to watch Blu-rays (regular DVDs are no problem). Of course, Apple would prefer that you just download an HD digital video transfer of the movie from the iTunes store. This conflict of interest certainly explains why Apple has been hesitant to add Blu-ray support, but if the Blu-ray continues to become more commonplace, Apple may have to give in at some point.

Aside from the lack of Blu-ray support, the new iMac seems like a very appealing all-in-one computer for those who are willing to part with $2,000+ in the name of speed and elegant design.

It’s nice to be able to watch movies from many, many years ago!” Carie – TX

Jackie Cooper Dies At Age 88

Versatile Hollywood Actor Jackie Cooper Dies

Cooper Was Child Star, Successful Director, Navy Officer

Hollywood actor Jackie Cooper died on Tuesday, May 3rd at the age of 88. The first photo here, which was scanned to digital by the Los Angeles Times archive, shows Cooper in one of his most popular roles, from the 1931 film “Skippy.” The 9-year-old Cooper rose to stardom for the role, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. Cooper remains the youngest person ever to be nominated for the Academy Award in a leading role. His childhood career continued with “Our Gang,” a series of short films better known as the original “Little Rascals.”

Unlike most child actors who earn fame for uncommon talent and charm, Cooper transitioned easily into a successful career as an adult actor, and later became a director helming popular TV shows ranging from “M*A*S*H” to “Magnum, P.I.” Cooper won two Emmy awards for directing, the first for an episode of “M*A*S*H,” and the second for the pilot episode of “The White Shadow.” Although Cooper never realized his dream of directing big Hollywood movies, he directed over 250 half-hour and hour-long television episodes. Perhaps his best known role from his adult acting career is that of Daily Planet editor Perry White in the four Superman movies made between 1978 and 1987, starring Christopher Reeve.

In addition to his career in show business, Cooper had a distinguished military career. He served in the Navy in the South Pacific toward the end of World War II. Later, in the early 1960s, Cooper played the lead in “Hennesey,” a TV show about a Navy doctor in an onshore office, which garnered praise from the Navy because it enhanced recruiting efforts. Soon thereafter Cooper accepted a position as a line officer in the Naval Reserve, with duties in recruitment, training films, and PR. He advanced in rank, and received many commendations and awards for his service, which included piloting jet planes for the Navy. He remains one of the highest ranked military/showbiz men of all time. Cooper was married three times and had four children.

To see more photos of Jackie Cooper which have been scanned to digital, visit Los Angeles Times.
