“Squad” Program Provides Friendly Competition

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

ScanDigital Has Created A Squad Program To Help Increase Productivity and Morale Among Its Employees

Recently, ScanDigital has enacted the aptly titled, “Squad” program in its offices. The basis of the squad program is to break the office down into compact teams (squads) that consist of about eight or nine employees, including a Leader and Ambassador that oversee the squad’s actions.

Each month, every squad earns a certain number of points determined by the Human Resources Director, Rich Wender.  The squad with the most points is rewarded with a free dinner for all of its members. Regardless of the points accumulated, each squad is granted an allowance every month which is allowed to be allocated in any way each team sees fit. For instance, one team used their allowance money to get customized t-shirts for their entire squad.

Though the squad program is still very young (it started on the first of May), since its inception there have already been notable changes throughout the ScanDigital office. From a financial standpoint, the squad program is proving to be beneficial. Ever since the squads have been established, the scanner’s generated revenue has gone up approximately ten to fifteen percent.

Additionally, the squad program has provided ScanDigital employees with a sense of camaraderie, increase in teamwork, and some friendly competition.  During the first two weeks of the squad program, each squad was required to come up with a list of core values, which helped to more clearly define what employees wanted to gain from their workplace experience.

Squads have proved to be a great way to provide more excitement to the workplace and have even been a catalyst for some good-hearted trash talk among employees, which is always entertaining. The program helps to provide an increase in everyone being able to see the “big picture” goals of the company and interconnect employees that span from all ranges of the spectrum. The squad program has proved to be beneficial to the company, increase morale, and help to bring some fun into our office!

Memorial Day Images Can Benefit From Being Digitally Preserved

Many Americans view Memorial Day as an excuse to barbeque, hang out around the beach, and enjoy a relaxing three-day weekend. What few tend to remember is why the holiday was actually enacted, and many confuse its intentions with that of Veteran’s Day. Unlike Veteran’s Day which celebrates our surviving war veterans, Memorial Day is meant to be a day where we honor those who have died in in the military serving The United States.

What better way could there be to truly honor those who have fallen defending our country than to restore photos of them in duty? There are a plethora of amazing photos ranging back to the inception of photography depicting heroic acts of war that have yet to be seen by the general public because they have not been properly restored and digitized. Many of us have family members, or friends, who have served in past wars and given their lives to defend our country; we want and need a way for their memory to live on. You may have images of when your father served overseas or of your friend who enlisted and fought in a war, and eventually lost their lives; you do not want to lose these memories. Digitizing photos of these aforementioned fallen soldiers provides us with the unique opportunity to keep these memories intact and provides us with great visual testimonials of their achievements.

One great advantage to acquiring old war photos is that they provide us with an archive and visual history of our country’s past.  However, by letting them merely exist in the physical form we are losing a large number of these images due to factors such as natural wear and tear, and people simply misplacing them. While it is great fun to hold a shoe box full of images or an old photo album filled with aged photographs, without digitizing these photos, people run a great risk of losing these images forever since they only exist in singularity. Luckily there is a way to both ensure that these images will live on while still being able to own the originals: by utilizing the services provided by ScanDigital. By using the services we provide, the memories of these images may be preserved (by having them digitally scanned) and you even get to keep the original physical photographs; it’s a win-win situation.

Your service was fantastic!

New ScanDigital Employee Enjoys 35mm Photography and Outdoor Activities in the Los Angeles Area

Hello ScanDigital blog readers! My name is Darin Peng Balaban and I just joined the team as an enthusiastic blog article writer. I currently attend the University of California Merced, and am going into my junior year with a major in Sociology and a minor in the Arts. I am a Los Angeles native, born and raised, so naturally as a teenager I acquired an infatuation with skateboarding. As I become older my dreams of becoming a professional skateboarder dissipated and I decided it would be more beneficial to focus my efforts on pursuing a higher education and partake in more productive endeavors with my passion for the arts. In the past year, I have been featured in an art show at The Coffee Bandits in Merced, CA which showcased multi-media pieces and number of 35mm photographs I had shot. In addition, I have recently been hired to paint large-scale murals using aerosol paint in different parts of the greater Los Angeles area. Besides creating art and skateboarding, I enjoy doing yoga, reading, hanging out on the beach and eating good sushi. I look forward to writing blog posts that cover the wide world of photography and hope you enjoy them!

“I was very impressed with ScanDigital’s services, professionalism, and communication (including the website). I didn’t know what to expect and I was hesitant and scared…to send my family’s lifetime full of memories to a company I didn’t know all the way across the country.  But the constant communication about my photos provided me comfort and the services were top notch!” – Elizabeth (Silver Spring, MD)

“I couldn’t be any happier with my order. The slides you scanned for me are 40 plus years old [and] you did an outstanding job cleaning them prior to scanning.  I have scanned slides before and have never gotten the quality that you obtained with my slides!” – Gregory (San Juan Capistrano, CA)

“Absolutely would recommend [ScanDigital]. I sent very old slides of my mom’s and grandmother’s [and] I was worried because if they were lost, I could never get them back. But I always knew what was going on, knew when [they] arrived and shipped back and they came back exactly how I sent them!” – Rhonda (Durham, NC)

“I was very happy with my order. Everything was great and I am especially impressed with all your communication along the line from beginning to end!” – Shirley (Beavercreek, OH)

“You guys do great work! I’ve sent you three sets so far of heirloom photos and all the digital images are awesome. The original photos were old and priceless and were returned in great shape. You have helped me preserve generations of priceless memories for my family!” – Heather (Ridgeland, MS)

“I would absolutely use ScanDigital again!  Your customer service team is knowledgeable, friendly, and inspires the comfort level needed to be able to take the only copies of treasured slides and photos and put them in the mail. Your [editing] team was [also] able to touch up photos from slides that I couldn’t even make out; they did a beautiful job on everything!” – Jennifer (Round Lake Beach, IL)
