Story Behind My Canvas Print

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Before launching our new Canvas Print product, a few of us in the office had the opportunity to try these amazing prints for ourselves. That’s because we would never offer something to our customers without having the utmost confidence. No, seriously, it had nothing to do with the bare wall in my apartment that was just begging for decoration :)

Watch this video of Kiley and me explaining our stories behind the photos we chose to have transformed into a Canvas Print:

As you heard in the video, I chose a photo from my vacation to Greece a couple years ago to have made into my Canvas Print. I took this particular photo of the Amphitheater at the Acropolis in Athens. I love this photo! It brings me back to one of my favorite vacations, on a day I was lucky enough to soak up the rays and an amazing cultural experience at the same time. And now that memory is displayed as a true masterpiece on my wall, almost disguised as a painting. No longer does that trip seem an ancient dream stored somewhere as a computer file, but rather proudly displayed for my enjoyment. That’s the best part of our Canvas Prints- they allow you to look back on a particular memory every day.

Canvas Prints allow you to admire your photos like the works of art they really are. You likely have photos that are better suited in an art gallery rather than stuck on your fridge with a magnet. Take your most favorite photos from the refrigerator or plain-Jane frames and turn them into a high quality masterpiece with ScanDigital, now offering a new solution to home design: Canvas Prints!

My experience placing the order was super easy and the result was breathtaking. I ordered the Canvas Print right from my ScanDigital gallery. Don’t worry if your photos aren’t already in a gallery, it’s easy to upload them to our site. The hardest part of the whole process? Picking out the one special photo!

5 Tips for Decorating with Photos

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Using photos is probably one of my favorite ways to decorate. Photos are simple, unique stories that capture a moment that you can save forever. When decorating with photos, they don’t have to be of professional quality, all they have to do is speak to you. The other day, I was going through my photo library, revisiting my travels over the past couple of years. Peter Island, Kona, Paris, Cinque Terre, Sienna, Salzburg, Munich…and the list goes on. I seem to forget how many amazing pictures I have taken over the years. Every time I visit my photo library, I realize that I should have some of these memories displayed around my house so that I can see them each and every day!

The challenge:  To actually take those photos that I love out my photo library and have them framed or printed onto a canvas.

Sometimes I have to go through thousands pictures to find 5 or 10 worthy of displaying. But the end result of having a memory as part of your home, either hanging on a wall or resting on a shelf in my living room is definitely worth it! I had to devise a plan, establish a few steps to actually get my project going…otherwise those photos would still be sitting in my photo library, lost among the thousands.

Here are a few tips that I used to get me started:

  1. Don’t overwhelm yourself; choose no more than 5 photos to start your project. Pick photos that speak to you, that evoke emotion and that compliment the color scheme in the room.
  2. Upload those photos to your favorite online printing place. (I recommend trying a canvas print from ScanDigital, they are AMAZING! http://www.scandigital.com/harvest/)
  3. Play with your photos. Keep the color version of the photo or convert it to black and white or sepia. Or add text. Just have fun with your photos.
  4. Choose the size of your photo(s) prints. Consider your space- for example, you don’t want to clutter a small wall with huge prints.
  5. Frame them! If you decide to have the photo professionally framed, Michaels offers an inexpensive framing service or just ask your local framer!

Happy decorating!
