Employee Spotlight: Ashinie Kapuge

A brief chat with one of our star scanners:

What’s your full name and official job title?
Ashine Kapuge and I am a scanner.

How long have you been working at ScanDigital?
Since April…so about six months.

What’s your favorite part about working here?
I like all of the interesting photos I come across. There are a lot of cool antique photos that come through here. I’ve scanned lots of amazing photos of historical events, like stuff from World War One and around that era.

Where do you see the company going in the future?
I think it will keep growing. It’s getting bigger and bigger every day. I think international partnerships could be a good idea.

Let’s talk more about you. Where are you from?
I was born in Sri Lanka and moved to Long Beach when I was nine years old.

What high school did you attend?
I went to two high schools: North High in Torrance and Wilson High in Long Beach.

What about college?
I’m currently a fourth year at UCLA and I’m a Biochemistry major.

Got any plans after you graduate?
I want to go to Med School…whatever med school I can get into! *Laughs*
After that I’d like to become a coroner. Finding out how a person died is like solving a puzzle and that’s interesting to me.

That’s an interesting career choice. What triggered that interest?
I started watching Dr. Gee a lot and following that show. I also watch shows like CSI even though I know they don’t use factual information.

What are your other interests/ hobbies?
I really enjoy drawing, mostly free-hand sketches and sometimes painting…I haven’t done it in a while though. I used to take drawing classes when I was younger.
I’m pretty into videogames, like online multi-player ones. I mostly play Guild Wars. It’s cool that LTL Prints is working with that game now.
I’m also in sorority (Phi Sigma Rho) that is math, science and bio specific. I never really thought I would be in a sorority, but I really enjoy it and get along with all the people.

What kind of music do you listen to?
I like everything but not a lot of Country and Hard Rock. There’s some good Country stuff but not most of it. I mostly listen to R and B, and Rap.

What other jobs have you had besides this one?
This is my first real job! I’ve done two internships though and one was in the ER. That was really cool.

Do you have any siblings?
Yes. I have a twin brother. He is a minute older than me.

Are you constantly asked silly questions about being a twin?
*Laughs* yeah, people ask stuff like,” Can you sense when the other one is in pain?”

That’s ridiculous. It was good talking to you Ashinie. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for choosing me to be in this spot!
