Scan My Slides: Maximize A Snow Day By Planning Activities Beforehand

Great Fun Awaits On The Next Snow Day

Build Wonderful Memories Indoors & Outdoors

snow daySnow Day. Just the name evokes a smile for people who grew up in a snowy region. A Snow Day may not mean much to fair-weather residents of the South, but for many people from the North and Midwest, the term is a happy one. It means no school and hours of sledding and building snowmen, followed by plenty of hot chocolate and a warm fire.

Any parent knows that a Snow Day can be full of memory-making experiences for little ones. Flip through an old album of pictures with them – reminding yourself, I need to scan my slides for preservation – to show what a wonderful time you had during the snow storms of your youth. You’ll want your children to have as much fun as the ones in this photo, taken in Michigan during last month’s blizzard.

The key to an enjoyable Snow Day is being prepared. Before the next blizzard, take inventory of your sleds, snow boots, mittens and hats. Is the pantry fully stocked on cocoa mix? Is there an easy cookie recipe that the kids can help you make in the afternoon, after they’ve spent all morning outside? At the same time, you don’t need to have every minute planned out – you want to be able to live in the moment and encourage your children to do the same, to be spontaneous.

And while a Snow Day is often equated with pure fun, it’s also a good time for adults to get some work done around the house. The next time a winter storm arrives, pull out old boxes of photos to sort through. Make a note to scan my slides as a reminder of which ones to save for future generations. Such digital images will be a treat to view on a cold, snowy night, so bring on the hot chocolate!
