Customer Spotlight: Lisa Tucker

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

One of the best parts about following up with our customers after every completed order, is learning how people are actually using our service to reconnect with their memories. After all, it’s not about photo scanning or video transfers, it’s about preserving precious memories. Our Customer Spotlight this month is, drum roll please…Lisa Tucker!

Lisa sent a box of pictures of her father and of her children when they were young to ScanDigital. Some of the pictures had already begun to deteriorate and some were damaged by the way they were being stored. Her father passed away when her son was 6 months old and her daughter was 4 years old.  She had pictures of him from the Korea war and some of him as a young man as well as pictures of him holding her children.  The pictures were very old and she knew they would not last forever. She sent them to ScanDigital to preserve them on CD. She said “I was a little hesitant about sending such precious items but the process was very easy and I could track the progress of my order on-line. I now have all my memories on CD where I can share them with my kids, who are now adults, and they can share them with my future grandkids.”

What great memories to have preserved and to share with your family! Thank you again, for sharing this touching story Lisa!

Customer Spotlight

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

One of the best parts about following up with our customers after every completed order, is learning how people are actually using our service to reconnect with their memories. After all, it’s not about photo scanning or video transfers, it’s about preserving precious memories. Our Customer Spotlight this month is, drum roll please..Linda Simmons!

Linda lives in Mississippi with her husband Allen with whom she has 3 grown children. Over the past couple decades her family has lost many elder relatives, which has left them with boxes of old 8 mm films from the 1950s and 1960s. Having no idea what was on the films and no projector to find out, the Simmons family came to ScanDigital to use our transferring film to DVD service.

Although Linda’s children didn’t seem interested in seeing the old films at first, it turned into a night of tears and laughter while the family sat down to relive a piece of their family history. “Great watching my young adult children tear-up at seeing movies of the grandfathers who died before they were born, the uncles they barely remember, and the grandmothers they remember well and loved.”

Linda also shared her appreciation for our help to provide her family with these memories. Directing her email to our CEO, she wrote “You, especially, need to know how much I appreciate your staff and their commitment to excellence!”

Linda- thanks again for sharing your story! We’re thrilled we could help preserve your history.

As always if you have any questions about our services or how to place an order please contact our customer service team at info@scandigital.com or visit our website ScanDigtial.

Katrina Survivor Loses Photos, Preserves Old Holiday Negatives

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

One of the best parts about following up with our customers after every completed order, is learning how people are actually using our service to reconnect with their memories. After all, it’s not about photo scanning or video transfers, it’s about preserving precious memories. Read about our Customer Spotlight, Teresa Taylor and her very touching story below.

Teresa is from Gulfport, Mississippi and has two children Jeremy and Jessica, 24 and 21, with her husband, Kevin. Unfortunately, this amazing family experienced the devastating disaster known as Katrina first hand. “Our house was 8 feet under water and a tornado took most of the roof off, so we had water damage upstairs, too. We lost our two dogs and I lost most of my pictures.”

Our ScanDigital team was able to preserve many of her family memories from the negatives that were luckily untouched. After receiving her order, so wrote us to share her story and said, “You will never know how much getting these pictures back mean to me.”

One photo she is thankful to have is of her two children, then 2 and 5, shown above. “Decorating the tree was always a big event as they were growing up. Our tree was always a little unbalanced during these years. The kids would decorate the tree on the bottom where they could reach with unbreakable ornaments. We’d do the breakables above their reach level. Our tree was always beautiful though when they did the tree. To us, anyway.”

Teresa- thank you again for sharing your story. Stories such as yours remind us how lucky we all are to have holiday celebrations to look forward to this time of year.

Customer Spotlight: Paula Parks Fulford!

Monday, August 16th, 2010

One of the best parts about following up with our customers after every completed order, is learning how people are actually using our service to reconnect with their memories. Afterall, it’s not about photo scanning or video transfers, it’s about preserving precious memories. To celebrate these stories, we’ll share a particular customer’s photo each month. Our Customer Spotlight this month, highlights one very special customer, drum roll please…Paula Parks Fulford!

Paula was first motivated to use our services because she wanted easy access to  the photos from her childhood without lugging out the slide projector. “My father took slides when I was growing up.  Looking through the “photo album” meant projecting slides on the wall…My last visit home, my mom gave me a pile of old family pictures, many I had not seen and I was excited to have those organized and in one place.”

Paula chose this particular image to share because it fills her with emotion to see herself embraced by her mother. “The picture that took me most by surprise was taken on a vacation to Colorado when I was about 6 yrs old.  My dad caught my mom and me in an unguarded moment, not a posed picture.  I feel warm and secure seeing myself wrapped in a blanket held by my mother…Now that I have a child of my own, looking at my young parents holding me with smiles and pride has a totally new meaning, and I feel a connection to them.  I like thinking about how happy they were to have me.”

She has also been using her newly digitized memories in unique ways. She writes the blog LoneStarLifer where she share photos for tributes to both of her parents. Paula also has a card business SnailMailNotes and has used some of her old photos to make humorous cards.

Paula has not only been a ScanDigital customer, but a true friend. She regularly interacts with us on Twitter and FAcebook, and even just recently tweeted from her @lonestarlifer account, “@ScanDigital I talk you up every chance I get!”

When asked about her ScanDigital experience she said, “I have been very pleased…My slides and photos have been transmitted safely and they come back to me in the same condition in which they were sent.  I appreciate that ScanDigital keeps me informed through each stage of the process: where my photos are, what stage of digitizing they are in, that they are on their way back to me.  Customer Service answers me quickly when I have a question.  I will continue to use your service!”

Read Paula’s complete interview here:

What motivated you to first use our services? Did you have a project in mind or simple desire for preservation?

My father took slides when I was growing up.  Looking through the “photo album” meant projecting slides on the wall.  We didn’t have many photo prints.  My father passed away several years ago and I had been thinking for some time that I would like to have a way to look at the photos when I wanted, and be able to give my younger brother a copy, also. I didn’t know how to go about this, then I learned about ScanDigital from a Groupon. I was a little nervous about sending my precious slides across the country but ScanDigital and UPS made sure they were safe.

One of my ultimate goals is to make my brother a photobook tracing our family line, and having all his baby pictures in one place.  Also, I enjoy scrapbooking and got the first four months of my now 13 year old son’s life in a scrapbook.  I finally faced the fact that I am never going to get the remainder of his pictures in a scrapbook, so I should get them scanned and make photobooks for him.

What was one of the best memories you were reminded of? Was there a particular image or video that you were most excited to see?

I have been most touched by the pictures of my parents when they were young.  My last visit home, my mom gave me a pile of old family pictures, many I had not seen and I was excited to have those organized and in one place.  I also enjoyed seeing pictures of my parents as young parents.  Now that I have a child of my own, looking at my young parents holding me with smiles and pride has a totally new meaning, and I feel a connection to them.  I like thinking about how happy they were to have me. Since my father passed away in 1998, I really enjoy looking at pictures of him, from all periods of his life.

The picture that took me most by surprise was taken on a vacation to Colorado when I was about 6 yrs old.  I remember the vacation and the slides, but I don’t remember ever seeing this picture.  My dad caught my mom and me in an unguarded moment, not a posed picture.  I feel warm and secure seeing myself wrapped in a blanket held by my mother.

How have you used and enjoyed your newly digitized material (shared with friends/family, created a slideshow, posted online, etc)?

I have used my digitized materials in two ways, so far.  I write a blog www.lonestarlifer.wordpress.com @lonestarlifer and have used the photos for tributes to both of my parents, and to write about myself some.

Secondly, I have a card business, www.snailmailnotes.com @snailmailnotes, and I have used some of the pictures of me when I was very young to make humorous cards.

How has your experience as a ScanDigital customer been?

I have been very pleased with ScanDigital service.  My slides and photos have been transmitted safely and they come back to me in the same condition in which they were sent.  I appreciate that ScanDigital keeps me informed through each stage of the process: where my photos are, what stage of digitizing they are in, that they are on their way back to me.  Customer Service answers me quickly when I have a question.  I will continue to use your service!

Customer Spotlight: Unseen Wedding Images from 11 Years Ago!

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

We follow up with every customer after their order is complete to hear about their experience using our service. One of the best parts about doing so, is learning how people are actually using our service to reconnect with their memories. Afterall, it’s not about photo scanning or video transfers, it’s about preserving precious memories. To celebrate these stories, we’ll share a particular customer’s tale each month. To kick-off our Customer Spotlight, we’d like to highlight one very special customer, drum roll please…Greg Kimmelman!

Greg lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with his wife of over 11 years, Gila and is the Director of Preconstruction at Stiles Construction. He used our service to convert his old wedding photos, shot by Russ Bryant, to digital files. Greg and Gila, pictured on their wedding day here, had a very limited amount of photos in their official wedding album, but had over 1,000 negatives that had never even been seen. Greg says, “We maybe had printed a few pictures, but generally here we were with no more “visual” of our wedding than the 40-50 pictures in our album.

Years later, Greg even took the plunge and bought a scanner. After finding himself getting caught up with the technical details and desire to edit each image, “I gave up.  I did the math on how long it would have taken me to scan them all and adjust them to an acceptable level, and the project would have taken me over a year!” That’s when he discovered ScanDigital.

Greg describes the first time the first time he and his wife enjoyed his images, “to coin a cheesy phrase…an amazing walk down memory lane began.” He goes on to say, “After 11 years, it was amazing to see so much of our wedding…family, friends, events all there for us to reminisce about, laugh at and with the over 1,000 pictures readily available for us to peruse, we were finally able put visuals together with so many of the stories others had told us about our wedding weekend.”

He also shared another meaningful reason he further enjoyed revisiting these memories. “Another special treat for me in particular was seeing pictures of my father and older brother at our wedding. Both had cancer at the time of our wedding, and within a year and a half of the wedding we lost both of them; so seeing pictures of them together with the rest of the family, relatives and friends was especially meaningful to me.”

In regards to his experience working with ScanDigital, Greg appreciated our continued communication throughout the process the most. He goes on to make to make us blush, “Thank so much for what you do and for helping bring an over 11 year project to daylight.  I would highly and warmly recommend ScanDigital, as I have already, to many friends and family wishing to preserve and relive many great memories.”

Read Greg’s complete story below:

“My wife (Gila) and I have been married for just over 11 years now.  Like most people, we engaged a photographer to handle shooting our wedding…not just any photographer, but a photojournalist/war correspondent (Russ Bryant of Savanna, GA) who would shot our events in black and white (edgy at the time…a bit more common now) and who would not shoot any “posed” pictures (though we talked him into a few given some special considerations).  Another “condition” of his shooting our wedding was that he alone, without our input, wanted to pick the pictures to create our wedding album…and he did an amazing job.  There are probably 40-50 pictures in our “official” wedding album.

Russ shot over 1,000 pictures over the course of our wedding weekend, and he agreed to give us the negatives since we didn’t have him provide us proofs of rest of the pictures.  Despite our initial and best intentions, we were going to have them all printed just to have them but never did.  Fast forward 6 or 7 years, and we maybe had printed a few pictures, but generally here we were with no more “visual” of our wedding than the 40-50 pictures in our album.

At that time, I decided to look into getting all our negatives converted to digital format, but it was very expensive at the time, very few companies did it and the resolutions available at that time were not so great.  After waiting a few years for technology to advance a little, I started my research again, but this time looked into buying my own negative scanner thinking I could (and would) do this project by myself.  After about another year of research, I took the plunge and bought a semi-professional scanner. We were so excited to finally be close to being able to see the rest of our wedding pictures and have them digitally. I anxiously read the instructions, got the scanner set-up and scanned my first few negatives and WOW!  They were awesome. However, I am a bit of a perfectionist so after reading more about the photo editing software that came with the scanner, I got so caught up in trying to adjust the pictures that well…I gave up.  I did the math on how long it would have taken me to scan them all and adjust them to an acceptable level, and the project would have taken me over a year!

When we got back we anxiously opened the package, got all the pictures transferred into iPhoto and to coin a cheesy phrase…an amazing walk down memory lane began.  With all the “stuff and things” going on with a wedding, you really don’t get a chance to experience it all, which is why you hire a photographer.  After 11 years, it was amazing to see so much of our wedding that we never got a chance to experience…family, friends, events all there for us to reminisce about, laugh at and with the over 1,000 pictures readily available for us to peruse, we were finally able put visuals together with so many of the stories others had told us about our wedding weekend.  Another special treat for me in particular was seeing pictures of my father and older brother at our wedding. Both had cancer at the time of our wedding, and within a year and a half of the wedding we lost both of them; so seeing pictures of them together with the rest of the family, relatives and friends was especially meaningful to me.   Maybe eventually I would have picked up the self-scanning project again…most likely not.  Without the advent of a company like ScanDigital, and in particular Matt’s help, we might still be sitting here with over 1,000 un-scanned, un-printed negatives.  Thank so much for what you do and for helping bring an over 11 year project to daylight.  I would highly and warmly recommend ScanDigital (as I have already) to many friends and family wishing to preserve and relive many great memories.”
