Digital Optimization

Digital ICE^TM:

Digital ICE stands for Digital Image Correction and Enhancement. It is a set of technologies related to producing an altered image to automatically remove surface defects, such as dust and scratches, from scanned images. The ICE technology works from within the scanner, so unlike the software-only solutions it does not alter any underlying details of the image.

Cropping:

Cropping is used to create smooth square borders around scanned images by cutting off a small margin around the edges of the digital image (NOT the physical image). When images are scanned, particularly slides and photos, the borders of the resulting scanned image are often rough and not aligned. Each image is reviewed by ScanDigital editors and marginal borders are cropped to give the resulting borders a smooth and professional look.

Image Reorientation – Rotation:

Image reorientation (or rotation) is used to make sure all images are oriented in the correct direction, “facing up”. When images are scanned, it is possible that the initial scanned image is upside down or oriented on the wrong side. Each image is reviewed by ScanDigtial editors and rotated to make sure it is facing the correct direction.

Red Eye Removal:

“Red Eye” is the common appearance of red eyes on photographs taken with a photographic flash when the flash is too close to the lens. Using special software, ScanDigital is able to remove the presence of “red eye” in scanned images without affecting the original physical image.

Color Correction:

When photographs are taken they are subject to a distinct color cast based on the light source and environment the photograph was taken in. Often images come out with a distinct blue color cast from outdoor and “standard” lighting sources. Color correction uses filters to balance the color cast of a scanned image.
